Being part of the community is very important to Woodlands’ staff and pupils. We welcome visitors and work closely with other educational establishments, local industries, organisations and individuals for the benefit of the pupils and the community. We have links with other mainstream and special schools and units in the locality.
Our community links include:
- Sunshine Café – our school’s café is open every Wednesday afternoon for all members of our community. The café is run by our post 16 pupils and holds cafes each month for parents/carers, year 6 pupils and extended members of our community.
- Christmas Fayre and Coffee Mornings – each year we hold a Christmas fayre and each term we hold a coffee morning. We welcome parents/carers, extended family members, friends of the school and residents of our local community. Funds are raised for charities and for whole school activities for the pupils.
- Visitors to school - we welcome many visitors to the school throughout the year. Our visitors include representatives from local sport teams, organisations that offer support for our pupils and their parents/carers and members of the community who help us celebrate our multi-cultural community here at school.
- Work-related experiences – we have excellent links with a wide range of employers across the city who support our pupils on work experience each year. Employers also visit the school to talk about their work or to support our Job Fair.
