Woodlands High School

Our Curriculum

At Key Stage 3 we ensure a smooth transition from primary school by providing year 7 pupils with a classroom base from which the majority of lessons will be taught. Learners are taught all National Curriculum statutory subjects as well as Independent Living Skills (ILS).

At Key Stage 4 pupils are taught all statutory subjects (English, Maths, Science, PE, Welsh) as well as the opportunity to choose their options. Pupils can achieve accredited qualifications appropriate to their needs, abilities and aspirations.  Vocational courses will also be offered as options, giving learners an opportunity to expand their skills, develop new interests and experience work-related education.

At Key Stage 5 (Post 16) we provide a curriculum that fully prepares all our learners for their lives after school. This curriculum prepares our learners for college, work and life beyond school. It is based on their needs, interests and abilities as well as high expectations to ensure they all reach their full potential.

We are committed to provide access to a broad and balanced curriculum for all of our pupils. The curriculum is meaningful, relevant and motivating ensuring that pupils needs are fulfilled. Alongside this we recognise that the curriculum must be relevant to pupils’ individual needs and there must be inbuilt flexibility in order to ensure continued relevance for all pupils at the various stages of their time at Woodlands.
