All pupils participate in PE lessons where the curriculum has been designed to follow the national curriculum and meet the needs of the pupils. The activities covered are:
Health & Fitness
Pupils have the opportunity to compete in whole school competitions in swimming, boccia and athletics. Woodlands regularly participates in the Cardiff Games competition and are actually reigning league title champions from 2016! The school also support the WSAPLD where pupils participate in competitions against others from all over South Wales.
Woodlands won the Welsh table cricket final in 2017 and went on to represent their country on the international stage at Lords (London).
The department has recently introduced an accreditation framework at KS4 and 5 that will underpin most of the subjects’ curriculum. Depending on their level of need and their choice within the options procedures they undertake at the end of each key stage, they will either gain AQA unit certificates, an entry level qualification or for the more able and talented they could even work towards a L1/2 in Sports Leadership during their final year at school.
Rubicon and Dancefit work closely with the department work closely with the department where pupils opt to participate and are provided with opportunities to perform at public events.
Every year pupils are invited to attend the residential adventure week at Story Arms (Brecon Beacons) where they have a go at canoeing, caving, hiking, gorge walking and climbing. This week provides the pupils with experiences that has the talking about it all year and memories they will never forget.
Currently there is an after school football and dance club allowing pupils to further develop their skills and interests.
From September 2017 the PE department has introduced a PE top that has to be worn by pupils for ALL lessons and when participating in Sports Competitions.
